Numerical simulation of the tsunami from the Anak Krakatau eruption landslide of 22nd December 2018
The simulation is of the first 75 minutes of the tsunami, looking northwest, with Sumatra at the top and Java at the bottom. Anak Krakatau is near the centre. The strongest tsunami radiates southwest (left), and refraction causes the waves to “wrap around” the islands and progress outward in all directions, with complex reflections from the shorelines. These make tsunami prediction especially difficult.
