Hey everyone, it's Evangeline here at etrailer. And today we're taking a look at the Konig XD-16 Pro Tire Chains here on our 2022 RAM 1500. If you're expecting some extreme weather, maybe there's some snow or even some ice on the ground and you want tire chains that you know will stay on your tires, that's where the XD-16 Pros can come in handy. These are super easy to put on your tire even when you're parked or stuck in the snow. There's no rolling around, crawling underneath your tire in fall, and they have springs on them too to keep that tension. So we have our manganese nickel alloy square links.
You can see they're large links with flat edges on each side. So that's designed to just help bite into that ice, but then also see the way that they're shaped and that's so that the snow doesn't clump up and stay on them. They are shaped in a diamond pattern, and that means they cover more of the tire compared to your traditional ladder style chains. So when you're making those turns, or if you're coming up from a stop, since you have more space of the tire that covers, you also have more traction. So you're gonna get two sets of chains, one for each tire, you have them installed on the rear tires for our truck, and they're gonna arrive in this bag.
So some of the other tire chains they have a soft shell case or a hard shell case. This really is just a canvas bag, but it does have zippers and you do have this handle. It is better than some of the other canvas bags I've seen. When you open it up, you get your two chains, but you also get a goodie bag. So you have these nylon bumpers.
Those are to help protect your rim if they do make contact. Here you can see that there's pretty much zero rim contact. You're also gonna get some plastic gloves, some plastic instructions. I recommend using all this storage space just to store an extra set of gloves. We also have a tire chain safety install kit with a rubber mat and lights if you wanna add that too just to keep your knees dry as you install the chains.
So there's different tire sizes for your truck so just double check yours. The ones we have it installed on are 275 65 R18. If you have your tire size you can use our etrailer.com fit guide, and then get the right fit for you. Tire chains fit differently. They usually fit a range of tire sizes so sometimes they fit better than others. These from all different chains I've tried on, these are a great fit for this tire size and this truck. So the XD-16s are great if you want that extra stability, that extra traction, that extra tension on your tires. I think they're awesome for pretty much any situation you'll be in. Now for specific situations, let's say you have a lot and a lot and a lot of deep snow, not that much ice. You'll want maybe other chains that have more of a twist link design. If you have more ice, we also have chains that have the V-bar studs or cleat. Now those are usually ladder style chains and they don't give you this much coverage compared to the ones that the Konig XD-16 does. So I still think this is a solid choice no matter what situation you're in. Now I talked about how these are super easy to install. Let's take a look at that. So once you get your chance, I highly recommend just laying them out on your garage floor, just double checking that everything looks good, it's not tangled. And this is also a good time to figure out how to put your tire chains on before you're stranded by the side of the road in the snow. So this all looks great and we have it facing the right way too. Facing the right way means that, see this hook there You want the flat portion on your tire and the hook portion away from your tire. So I like to set it up by having the flat portion facing up. So now you're gonna get half of your tire chains. Yeah, split in the middle. And you want to get this half as far across the other side as you can get it. So just throw it over there and pick it up on the other side. So then once you have it around your tires, you're then gonna connect those two cables on each side. So see how we have a hook and then we have this tab Just pop that through and then pull it to secure. You're gonna leave that chain behind, but you're gonna bring the rest of the chains forward. So don't drop those. Now you're gonna make your front connection. So your red hook goes into the red link and you're gonna go down and make the bottom connection. So we have this long gray chain that fit
