The egg implants somewhere other than the #uterus in an #ectopic #pregnancy, most commonly in the fallopian tubes. Because of this, ectopic pregnancies are often referred to as "tubal pregnancies." The egg can potentially take up residence in the ovary, abdomen, or cervix.
There isn't enough space or nurturing tissue in any of these places for a pregnancy to occur. The organ that contains the foetus will eventually explode as the foetus grows. This can result in serious bleeding and put the mother's life in jeopardy. An ectopic pregnancy that develops into a live birth is known as a classic ectopic pregnancy.
