In order to get to Cumberland Island National Seashore, you have to take a ferry.
Well, first you have to make sure there's room on the ferry for the date you're planning to visit. Cumberland Island is a popular spot after all. Then you have to make your reservation, which thankfully this time Wayne took care of for us.
Once you buy your tickets to Cumberland Island National Seashore, which are separate from your ferry ride and not included with it, you show up in St. Marys, Georgia, to catch the ferry.
Here's the 45-minute ride condensed into about three minutes. It's the first in a series of "A Jaunt to Cumberland Island" travel videos where we will explore the ruins, the graveyard (well, one of them), the beach, and the horses.
Oh, those horses...if you want a good laugh at my expense, that's an episode you won't want to miss!
For now, enjoy the ferry ride. As I say in the video, the morning started off a bit chilly (it was late December), but we could not have ordered a more beautiful, bright blue, sunshine-filled day to hike all over the island. (Well, I guess we could've if I knew how to do that!)
