"about one in two students in grades 7-12 experience sexual harrassment just in the 2010-11 school year....for the students we described it as unwelcome and unwanted sexual comments, jokes...touching...being called gay or lesbian in a negative way....gender harassment....it was unwelcome rumors....being sent or shown sexual pictures against their will...it's really important for educators and parents to have consent and respect with students...it's this culture of harassment...where people being harassed may turn around and harass someone else...needs to be addressed holistically...with a lot of prevention.
We want to send message to all groups...to start talking about sexual harassment...staring in middle school....what it is....what is inappropriate...what they can do about it if they experience it or witness it."
