Despite sluggish annual economic growth in agriculture sector in Nepal, the dairy sector is poised to grow at the rate of above 10 per cent every year. This growth is still inadequate to supply the dairy products to meet the market demand which is fulfilled with huge import from outside the country, especially India.

To support the dairy sector, Practical Action is implementing 'Dairy for Development in Nepal' project in partnership with Forum for Rural Welfare and Agricultural Reform for Development (FORWARD) Nepal with financial support of the Jersey Overseas Aid (JoA). The project is working in Chitwan, Nawalpur and Makwanpur Districts. The overall objective of the project is to improve livelihood of smallholder dairy farmers through sustainable increase in income and its specific objective is to sustainably increase the production and productivity of 5,000 smallholder dairy farmers within three years. The three year project started from April 2018 and will last until March 2021.
