Jackson Mayor Chokwe Lumumba said the lack of clear, unified recommendations for masking across Mississippi has undercut Jackson’s own efforts to control the virus spread.
“The lack of a unified message across the state helps to contribute to that challenge. When you see communities that are interconnected–here in Jackson we literally have municipalities, on one side of the street it’s the city of Jackson, on the other side it’s another municipality. And so our efforts to maintain a mask mandate are all for naught if, you know, right across the street individuals are seen without masks and people can travel back and forth.”
