Kayleigh POV
"Hello?!" I walked right in; I never knocked when I came here anymore. "Liam? Sadie? Karen? Geoff? Anyone?" it seemed like no one was home. Guess I should have called beforehand.
"Kayleigh?" I heard Sadie call from upstairs.
"Oh hey!" I walked up and met her in the hall, outside her room. She was standing in a strange, almost guarded way in front of it. "We were just saying bye to Cadence and I wanted to see if you guys wanted to hang out or something? I texted Cara and she's doing boyfriend-y stuff with Harry today" I fake gagged myself "But anyway, you want to get frozen yogurt or something?"
"Ummm....uh"
"Or not? Are you busy?" I moved my eyes to the cracked bedroom door behind her.
"Yeah, um kinda. I just want to sort of be alone you know. I'm in a bit of a mood today." Oh god. That's all she had to say.
"Okay, well is Liam home?"
"No, he's with Zayn...." She looked away with a look on her face that I was having a hard time deciphering.
"Oh. Well I'll leave you alone then. I mean are you sure though? We could watch Mean Girls again?" she cracked what sort of looked like a tiny smile, but shook her head. "Okay." I gave her a big hug and rubbed her back for a second. A car honk broke us up. She jumped.
"Um well that might be my parents. You better go out the back." She said twiddling her thumbs nervously and looking past me out the big front window at the top of the stairs. It was pouring rain at this point.
"When have they ever cared before? Sadie are you alright?" she was being really weird. I heard the front door open and slam.
"Hey are you ready?! I went to the bank and everything. We should be all set." My heart dropped into my stomach when I heard Cadence's voice. Sadie looked away from me. I walked past her, into her room and sure enough, there were two suitcases and a big duffle bag. All packed up. I felt like I was going to puke.
"Sadie. No." I heard my voice spill out. I was so hurt by her. I was so hurt for them. Zayn, Liam, me. "What are you doing?"
"Kayleigh?" Cadence finally met us in her room. I shook my head at him and felt it. Oh god here it comes. I felt my throat tighten, to the point where it hurt. I couldn't stop my bottom lip from turning out.
"Kay, don't." Sadie could tell. One tear fell, and then another, and another.
"Why?" was all I could muster up
"No one wants me here, Kayleigh! Niall, Liam,...Zayn!" her voice cracked when she said Zayn. "Even you and Lucy have been ignoring me lately!" maybe she was right, but that was because she was spending so much excess time with Cadence, who had been particularly quiet this whole time "Cadence is the only person who still cares." She looked at him and he gave her a weak smile. It made me sick.
"Look, Kayleigh, she just needs time to figure things out. To calm down. She'll be back and I'll take care of her. Don't stress."
"Don't stress? Cadence, it's not that I'm worried about her safety." I turned to Sadie when I said this next part "if she leaves, she better kiss her future with Zayn goodbye. And some of her friends here too for that matter." She gave me a shocked look. "Sadie. You have to know that nothing you ever, ever do will make me hate you, we're basically family. But do you really think Harry and Louis will forgive you if you betray Zayn like this?" She looked like she was going to cry now.
"I just can't afford to think like that." Was all she said and she maneuvered past me, into her room and Cadence helped her with getting her bags downstairs. Cadence was trying to stuff all of Sadie's things in the truck with his. I pulled her aside. We were under the porch, with little shelter from the rain falling all around us.
"SeeBee, please, please don't leave." I only called her SeeBee on special occasions. (SeeBee=Sadie Brooke Payne) I took her hands in mine. "I don't care about anyone else. Stay for me." She rested her forehead against mine.
"I love you KayMay" (Kayleigh May Foster) this broke my heart and I started to cry again. We shared a long, teary goodbye. Well, I was the only one crying. She was comforting me. When she finally let go, she gave me a kiss on the cheek and wiped my tears away with her thumbs. She hopped in the passenger seat and Cadence backed out of the driveway. I mouthed the words 'I hate you' at him and he looked away, pretending he didn't see. As they disappeared down Mapleview Lane. I turned back into the Payne house. I shut off all the lights and went to Sadie's room. I turned off the light and slowly shut the door. I've never felt so unwelcome in the Payne household before. I shut the door and got in my car. The rain added a nice touch to the mood I was in. I let it overtake me. Now where to go?
