BBC Radio 2’s Young Choristers of the Year 2019 grand final took place at the BBC Philharmonic Studios in MediaCityUK. It was hosted by Radzi Chinyanganya and will be broadcast in a special Christmas programme on Radio 2 on Sunday 22nd December at 6pm – when the winners (one girl and one boy) will be awarded the title ‘BBC Radio 2 Young Chorister of the Year 2019’.
The competition now in its 33rd year of broadcast, celebrates young talent singing in churches, chapels, cathedrals and beyond. Eight contestants from around the UK, aged between 11 and 17 years of age, compete in the final. This year they performed in front of a panel of expert judges, including composer and conductor Bob Chilcott (chair of judges), vocal coach to the stars, Carrie Grant, world famous opera singer, Gerald Finley and classical singing star, Camilla Kerslake.
The eight finalists each sang a Christmas Carol and a Christmas Anthem - including Joy to the World, O Holy Night, The First Nowell and In the Bleak Midwinter.
