In the game Magnus Carlsen went for the old King's Indian Attack setup with a fast Nf3 / g3, while Gukesh went for an immediate ...Bg4 and opted to trade his light-squared bishop for the knight on f3, immediately damaging White's pawn structure on the kingside. From there Magnus Carlsen went for a fast queenside expansion plan, while Gukesh did his best to thwart White's advances and hang on in the middlegame!
