The village of Tejakula has a very particular style of dance “Wayang Wong”, the form rare to find in Bali. This form of dance is sacred, performed with sacred masks that have been always kept in the temple, since the origin of this dance.
In 1975. in the village made duplicate masks, so the dance could be shown also outside the temple, still with religious ceremonies performed as a blessings for the dance.

The dance group from Tejakula got the recognition from the UNESCO for Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2016.

The film is following the days of the ceremonies in the village of Tejakula and investigates their relation to the dance and how it is connecting with daily life, rituals and religion. Through the images and interviews, I tried to understand in a deeper way this form of art and how does it influence the lives of the people.

It is inspired by the immense strength and energy of the people from Tejakula for preserving the tradition and culture in it’s pure, sacred form.
