During the translation process, he discovered striking similarities between this story and another popular allegory of the Immaculate Conception in Paraguay, the Virgin of the Miracles of Caacupé. Father Luna believes that these stories can be considered sister stories due to their common threads.
Both stories involve encounters with the Virgin Mary in indigenous contexts. In the case of Our Lady of Guadalupe, she appeared to an indigenous man named Juan Diego, while the Virgin of Caacupé, according to legend, saved the life of a young man named José, who then carved two wooden sculptures to express his gratitude.
Notably, both Juan Diego and José communicated with the Virgin in their respective indigenous languages, rather than in Spanish.
