This video module about the harvesting stage is part of the video series on Black soldier Fly (BSF) biowaste processing (Link to intro module). In the harvesting stage the Larvero units are emptied in the mechanical sieve which separates the Larvero content into three fractions. The larval fraction has to be manually separated further to increase the purity. Use this checklist (link) to conduct the operation and the log sheet (link) to collect the performance data.
The learning goals for this module are:
• Describe the process parameters of this stage
• Apply harvesting process including preparation of the harvesting station
• Identify the correct mesh sizes used for the separation of the materials
• Recognize the need for certain data and apply the procedures for data collection
