Around 11 million pensioners live in Ukraine. Many elderly people experienced the horrors of World War II. Now, decades later, they are seeing war again.
Instead of entertaining their grandchildren and enjoying life, Ukrainian grandparents are forced to hide in cold shelters from Russian airstrikes and artillery shells. Some of them remain without electricity, water, food, and essential medicine for a long time. Those who have enough energy are trying to evacuate from conflict hotspots. Yet there are also elderly people who are isolated or bedbound, and are left face to face with danger.
Nevertheless, Ukrainian pensioners are keeping up their fighting spirit and their faith in victory, and supporting the country's defenders however they can.
