Here is our latest paint job. This is a fictional livery created in the spirit of the F-18 Hornet and F-16 "Ghost" aggressor paint schemes to roll out by the Navy and Air Force in the past couple of years. If only the Navy had chosen the F-14 Tomcat over the F-18 Hornet for its long-term operations, we'd have likely seen this beautiful scheme on a full-scale Tomcat. For now, this twin 80mm electric ducted fan (EDF) will have to do. Like all of our projects, this one was a combination of rattle cans and airbrushing. All of our airbrush paint is mixed using different colors of Apple Barrell Acrylics and thinned with Createx Reducer. As a rule of thumb, you'll want to dilute the total volume of the paint color you mix up with by adding 15-20% thinner. In other words, if we mixed up 1 ounce of paint, we'll add .15 to .20 ounces of thinner. We've had great luck using Createx Reducer as a thinner. Some other people use rubbing alcohol, windshield wiper fluid, and even simply water, with success. The masks were all created using removable shelf liner from Duck. We just mapped out the designs on the liner using a pencil and then used an exact knife to cut them out. These masks are reusable and have the perfect amount of tack for foam model masking. They won't pull up any paint from the base layer while at the same time prevent any colors from bleeding as a mask should. Please checkout our other painting videos and stay tuned for the maiden flight video of this beast! Up next we are painting the newly released F-86 120mm EDF from HSDJETSUSA.com.
