On this year’s World Prematurity Day, McMaster Children’s Hospital recognizes the 50th anniversary of its Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
The NICU provides intensive medical care for the youngest patients, newborn babies, and the one at McMaster Children’s Hospital is the largest in the world.
The care unit is expansive with 63 beds and more than 400 staff and physicians.
They provide care for over 1,500 babies and their families every year.
The hospital held an event on Friday to mark the milestone, featuring keynote speaker Dr. John Zupancic who is an Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School and former McMaster trainee.
