Hello neighbors. It's Brad here, etrailer. And today we're taking a look at Westin Sure-Grip running boards on a 2021 GMC Canyon. Now this is available in three different color options. We have our brushed aluminum on our truck here, we also have a black aluminum as well as a bright anodized aluminum. Running boards are a great addition to a truck.
Many times, trucks can be a little bit more difficult as far as getting into them, due to their ground clearance. And sometimes as people get older, like my parents, they have trouble getting into their trucks. So, adding running boards makes it a lot easier to be able to get in and get out with much less of a gap. These bars are specific for a crew cab truck. So, this is gonna be great for, and if you have your kiddos hopping in the back, they can easily get in having that step there, just to kinda make that jump into the seats a little easier on them.
The Sure-Grip has a rubber material on top, and that's gonna give you extra grip protection while stepping onto them. And sometimes, if it's been raining or you have snow on your shoes, it can get slippery. Well, that's the great part about this, is it's actually channeled to keep that water there and not actually create a slip hazard. It's gonna give you that extra grip. Also, it's UV resistant, so it's not gonna crack or fade over time.
The running boards themselves are six inches wide, but your step platform here is four and a half. With that four and a half inches wide, that's gonna be great for an adult to be able to step on them, no problem. You can also upgrade your running boards with a light kit that's sold separately, and that's gonna illuminate and kinda give it a cool look. But at nighttime, when hopping in the vehicle, people are gonna know exactly where they can step, making it a little more sure footed when in getting in the vehicle. The kit is gonna come with one for each side, so your truck will be covered.
It is a nice aluminum, so it's lightweight. So during the install, it's pretty easy to do by yourself, because it's not terribly heavy, but it does have a very robust feel to it. And this brush aluminum finish looks really good, and it's also gonna be little bit of scratch resistant. Now, this kit comes with custom brackets for this vehicle specific. So it makes installation a breeze. This is something you can absolutely do in your driveway, and have it done probably in less than an hour. So, speaking of that install, let's take a look at that. For our install, we're gonna be doing it on a lift, but this is definitely something you can do in your driveway or in your garage with no problems. You really don't have to lift it up, we're just doing this to make it a little bit easier for you guys to see. And the first thing you're gonna want to get is a trim panel removal tool or you can simply grab a flathead screwdriver. And we're gonna look under here, we're gonna see this plug. Now, there's gonna be a few of them as we go along, that have holes here. So, it's probably this one out here. Just kinda get underneath that. Just in motion, you should be able to kinda pry it out. And then when we have that removed, we have these U nuts here, and this is going to create our threads to actually mount it in. So you're gonna wanna take the flat portion, and that's gonna stay flat with the bottom here. You're simply gonna kinda push this in place. You may have to give it a little bit of persuasion with the screwdriver or whatever tool you're using, but you'll hear it kind of audibly pop in place and it should stay there. So, there's going to be a total of six of these. And the other one here is going to be the other mounting point for our bracket and it's directly above here. So we'll go ahead and do the same thing. Now there's going to be two more sets of two as we go along, but there's actually a few extra holes a
