Singapore will join Brunei, Malaysia, and Thailand in nominating the kebaya for UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage list. This marks Singapore's first multi-national nomination. The kebaya is a traditional dress for women in Southeast Asia. The National Heritage Board called the kebaya a microcosm of the region's cultural melting pot, and will focus on its shared features across regions for this bid. It will also promote and protect this traditional craft through public outreach initiatives from January to March next year. The result is expected to be announced in end-2024.
