(29 Sep 2018) The torch relay of the 2019 Winter Universiade in Russia started in Moscow on Saturday.
The Universiade Flame was lit at a gala ceremony in one of Moscow's central parks.
It was then taken on a 7.5 kilometre route along embankments of the Moskva River past the Moscow Kremlin, Christ the Saviour Cathedral and other landmarks.
One of 51 Moscow torchbearers was Russian sports minister Pavel Kolobkov.
The torch relay will last 163 days and visit many Russian cities before ending in the host city of Krasnoyarsk in Eastern Siberia ahead of the major sports festival on March 1, 2019.
The Universiade is an international multi-sport event organised for university athletes.
More than 3,000 athletes from more than 50 countries will compete in eleven sports from March 2-12.
