Update on,The drill sergeant,Jonathan Pentland, who was caught harassing
a black man walking in the neighborhood.
He has been charged with third-degree assault and battery. If convicted, he faces up to 3 days in jail or 500 dollars fine.
The Port Jackson soldier has been arrested after a viral video showed him pushing and threatening a young Black man.
Richland County Sheriff, Leon Lott, said in a news conference that Pentland has been released from jail on a personal recognizance bond, according to jail records.
Fort Jackson is the US Army's main production center for basic combat training.
"The leaders at Fort Jackson in no way condone the behavior depicted in the video posted recently," said BG Milford Beagle, Jr, Commanding General of
Fort Jackson.
"This action deeply impacts our community, the neighbors in the Summit, the city of Columbia, Richland & Lexington counties, and our Army family," Beagle said. "I ask that our communities and leaders exercise a degree of patience, affording Sherriff Lott and law enforcement investigators to account for the full measure of events before, during, and after the incident that was recorded."

The family of a drill sergeant has been moved from their home for their safety, following violent protesters gathering outside the residence.
