Systemic racism exists in Canada today because our country was created to separate White people from Black and Indigenous people.
Although these laws have been removed, we are still dealing with the consequences of a segregated society, and that's why systemic racism exists. Just because it is now illegal to treat Black and Indigenous people as second class citizens doesn't mean that their communities, schools and employment opportunities are now equal to White communities, schools and employment opportunities.
This is my first video about racism in Canada and I am only touching the surface. We often don't think about all of the government institutions that affect our lives so it is even more difficult to think about how those same institutions work to lift some races up and keep other races down.

Also I used the name George in my example of the day after the abolish of slavery and I didn't mean it as a reference to George Floyd. It was just the name that came to my head at the moment since a lot of slaves were given English names.
