...art, a life-force through which we collectively pay tribute to the past, while celebrating hope for the future. The greatest tribute to the memory of the 1.5 million victims of the Armenian Genocide is the endurance of our cultural spirit and the ability to rise above a dark past towards a brighter tomorrow.
On April 24, 2003 some of Armenia's greatest performers and artists gathered to commemorate the 88th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide at New York City's historic Cooper Union Hall. A document of this unique event, A Concert for Truth features landmark performances by Jazz legend Datevik Hovanesian, Arto Tuncboyaciyan, singer-song writer Vahan Artsruni, Anoosh Barclay, and YY Sisters. Also included is a historic first-person account of the Genocide by the late Armenian writer, Hagop Asadourian, whose harrowing and powerfully moving testimony of survival highlights an unforgettable evening.
Naregatsi Art Institute and the artists participating believe that art is a powerful expression of the spirit which survived through the massacres of 1915, and which can never be diminished.
