Kenya’s share of exports to the United Kingdom is on a downward trajectory as the full effects of an uneven business climate manifest in the economy. Kenya’s export share of its top 20 products in UK imports has halved from 26.7% in 2001 to 13.5% in 2016. This has also been attributed to intense competition from neighbouring countries. According to a research report by set a UK based firm indicates that Kenya is facing competition from Rwanda, Ethiopia, Tanzania and Cote d'Ivoire among others. This is majorly linked to low wages, marketing systems and standards compliance. The report proposes to reverse this, detailed trade analysis is key as well as continued attention to improving international market access to firms in UK, EU, US, Asia, and investing in trade‑related infrastructure, and strengthening domestic policies in relation to the development of economic zones.
