ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa has kicked off the party's 113th birthday celebrations in Robben Island.

The party says Ramaphosa's visit to the island is to honour freedom fighters, who were incarcerated.
Ramaphosa says the island holds an important history of the ANC.

He says as much as Robben Island was supposed to break down the leaders who were incarcerated there, it became a university for Freedom Fighters.
