For this playthrough of Nintendo's official ROM hack of Doki Doki Panic, I'm gonna playthrough this game 4 times with each of its playable characters, in order to take advantage of their special abilities.
However, Mario, the first character, has none. He is the most well-rounded character out of the four in this game. So getting through this game as Mario will be s straightforward experience. He replaces the boy and son called Imajin from Doki Doki Panic, and represents the basis that Mario be a balanced character throughout every single future game that features character stats, from Mario Kart, to Super Smash Bros, to even this game's own partial homage to itself from Super Mario 3D World.
As this doesn't follow a lot of how Bros. 1 and Bros. 3 played, Bros. 2 has several unique things about it:
- No Time Limit, so take all the time you want.
- Instead of hitting "?" Blocks from below to get pickups, you instead have to unearth red grass from the ground.
- You can take more than two hits before you die. Just find secret Super Mushrooms to increase your max HP from 2.
- YOU CAN'T JUMP ON ENEMIES TO KILL THEM! This is important. One of the main things about this game is that you pick up and throw things as your attack, be it vegetables like turnips from the ground or just standing on enemies to lift them over your heads to throw them at other enemies.
- You can Super Jump. If you crouch for about two seconds, you'll glow. If you jump before moving from there, you'll jump higher than usual.
- There are no underwater levels at all.
- Speaking of jumping, Mario never raises his fist when he jumps. That's his signature pose, but it never shows up in this game. It's... bizarre.
There are other things in this game too, such as hidden beakers that create doors to Subspace (not to be confused with that from Super Smash Bros. Brawl). Whatever was on the screen when you entered through that door is mirrored and darkened. You can find hidden Super Mushrooms here, have the little turnips become coins for a Slot Machine bonus game, or if you're really good, find another door that warps you into a later level.

There's at least one boss at the end of each World's level, with any bosses before the last boss of that world being considered a mid-boss. 1-1 & 1-2, have you face against the ambiguously-gendered (but mostly called female, which I'll refer to her as) Birdo. She simply spits eggs at you from her giant mouth. Jump on them, then throw them back at her to hit her. Do this 3 times in both of the instances that you fight her, and Birdo will be gone. You can then use the Bird Mask nearby to continue on through the World.
You will also have some run-ins with creepy masks known as the Phanto. They will usually be guarding keys that you need to advance further, and will proceed to chase down your very life essence should you pick the key up until you bring it to its lock. Scary stuff!
The true boss of World 1 is a bomb-throwing, sunglasses-wearing rat called Mouser. to beat Mouser, just simply throw his bombs back at him right before they explode. Soon, Mouser will be out of your hair, too, and then you can proceed on to World 2.

As I've said before, if you managed to pick up Coins in Subspace, you can use them to play a Slot Machine bonus game after every level. This will give you an opportunity to earn more lives, but I don't understand some of the lineups I get that make this happen...
