Introduced in 1963, The QUATTROPORTE's focus has always been around performance. It is the performance & luxurious car.
Luxury and performance in one package, is something very typical of Italian car manufacturers like MASERATI.
MASERATI as a company has changed ownership quiet a lot over the past few years.
In 1968, Citroën acquired Maserati, and this led to the 2nd generation QUATTROPORTE to be based on the Citroen SM platform and shared a number of components. The Citroën era ended in 1975, when its stakes in MASERATI to an Italian state-owned company.
By 1989, FIAT Auto, owned 49% of MASERATI. 17 years later in 1993, FIAT solely owned MASERATI.
In 1997, FIAT sold 50% of it's quota to Ferrari, and by 1999, FERRARI fully owned MASERATI as it's luxury division. The time spent with FERRARI, marked a whole new era for MASERATI.
FIAT(now FIAT-CHRYSLER) latter regained control of MASERATI around 2005. MASERATI, ALFA ROMEO, all CHRYSLER subsidiaries are all part of the FIAT-CHRYSLER AUTOMOBILES born in 2011.
To date, MASERATI remains an icon for luxury and performance in the industry.
