Manitoba Court of King's Bench Chief Justice Glenn Joyal has convicted Jeremy Skibicki of first-degree murder in Winnipeg on Thursday, in connection to the killings of four Indigenous women.
Skibicki, who admitted to the murders, had his defense team argue that he should be found not criminally responsible due to schizophrenia.
However, the judge rejected this claim, and prosecutors characterized the killings as racially motivated. Skibicki has been sentenced to an automatic life term with no chance of parole for 25 years.
