**One of the BIGGEST pow wows in Arizona is here! The 36th Annual Red Mountain Eagle Pow Wow 2024 was packed with dancing, singing, and specials, all highlighted by the incredible Northern Cree as the host northern drum. If I could’ve stayed in their canopy and recorded just them all day, I would have—but I had to capture the whole event!
Coming off the SACNAS Pow Wow at the Phoenix Convention Center the night before, where I joined my friend Trevor Foster as MC, I was ready for Saturday’s Red Mountain excitement, especially the spotlight dancing! I was so focused on capturing both video and photos that I juggled recording with taking photos, and unfortunately, a few shots turned out blurry. I’ll take this as a lesson for future spotlight sessions, and focus solely on recording to do the dancers justice. The video still came out great, though! I’m proud of my long video segments that flow like high-quality live streams, making the editing process easier and allowing viewers to really experience the event.
If only my WiFi could handle uploading hours of 4K footage 12 times a month 🤣 For now, I’m sticking to 1080p uploads. Red Mountain Eagle Pow Wow is a massive event, and I hope to capture every dance this weekend!
Details for the Red Mountain Eagle Pow Wow:
-Admission is free!
-Parking is also free but gets packed—luckily, this year, there are attendants directing traffic, so it’s well-organized.
-There’s frybread for $8, but there are also a couple of food vendors with cheaper prices who only take only cash. Their frybread is just $5 cash only, a nice break from the higher-priced vendors who take card!
-Friday night (6-9pm) is for canopy setup, where people gather to claim their spots.
-Restrooms are mainly porta-potties, but there’s a fre hand-washing stations this year! A building with restrooms is located behind the teepees, but I haven’t checked it out in years.
-Be sure to take sunset photos with the teepees! (always a controlled campfire in front too!)
-Seating is available with wooden benches around the circle, and four sets of bleachers if you don’t bring your own chairs.
I had a fantastic Saturday—stay tuned for Sunday’s video, coming soon!
