The Sackville's have inhabited Knole, one of Britain's greatest houses, for more than 400 years. Robert Sackville-West, 7th Baron of Sackville, is the 13th generation of family to live at Knole. In his talk, he will take us on an illustrated personal tour of this "calendar house", with its legendary 365 rooms, 52 staircases, 12 entrances, and seven courtyards. Lord Sackville will describe the smoldering spirit of Knole showing the grand state rooms. He will reveal the family's private apartments filled with decorative arts as well as portraits. He also will include a trip behind-the-scenes in the labyrinth of cellars and attics filled with mementos and cupboards bursting with WWI uniforms, china, and bric-a-brac. Lord Sackville will talk about his divergent ancestors who lived at Knole. Finally, Lord Sackville will explain how Knole influences his family's lives and their relationship up to the present day.
