Steak connoisseurs usually pay through the nose for it, too. A package of eight Wagyu steaks from Omaha Steaks, for example, costs around $425.

Whether you order it at a steakhouse or get a cut from your local butcher, Wagyu will always be pricey. So what is the reason this beautiful beef can cause such sticker shock? The easy answer is its incredible flavor. The real answer is clearly a little more complicated.
