Retired Maj. Gen. Alexander Macdonald retired after 45 years of military service. During that time, he flew more than 10,000 hours, commanded the North Dakota Air National Guard for 13 years and then went on to serve as the first Air Guard adjutant general for the state. On Aug. 27, 2013, he spoke at an event commemorating the end of 66 years of flying planes for the North Dakota Air National Guard. That day, the last C-21 left the base.
