Rhea, along with her husband Kronos, is the most important Titan in Greek mythology. She is the mother of Hestia, Demeter, Hera, Poseidon and Zeus; and Hades, king of the Underworld. She is essentially the kickstarer of the entire Olympian linage. In her own right she is the goddess of female fertility, motherhood, and generation. She was revered as the Meter Theon, Mother of the Gods. She was also likely the most worshiped of the Titans with temples ranging from Athens to Sparta and Crete. She was instrumental in allowing Zeus the chance to overthrow Kronos and without her Kronos would still rule all. But what did she actually do? Why was she so important? And, what happened to her after the overthrow of Kronos? Let’s talk about it.
