Victimology is the science of of victims, causation of victimization, relationship between victims and offenders and treatment of victims by criminal justice machinery and State as a whole. In this video session Dr.Debarati Halder discusses about development of victimology by contemporary victimologists whereby they have developed their opinions on victim-offender relationships, causation of victimization etc. The term Victimology was coined by Benjamin Mendesohn who had been criminal defense lawyer. He is considered as the father of victimology. Apart from Mendelsohn, Hans von Hentig, Sellin, Wolfgang, Fattah, Schafar, Lanadau, John Dussich etc have also contributed to the development of understanding about victimology, types of victims, causation of victimization etc.
