Judith Versluis, The Netherlands Cancer Institute, Amsterdam, Netherlands, discusses clinical features of acquired resistance in stage IV melanoma patients treated with immune checkpoint inhibition. 142 patients who achieved a pathological response and subsequently relapsed from the OpACIN (NCT02437279), OpACIN-neo (NCT02977052) and PRADO (NCT02977052) trials were assessed, where ipilimumab and nivolumab were administered. Despite a small sample of tumors, an increase or decease of immune cells was observed depending on location of metastases.
