Our project will determine if a 1-day living kidney donor evaluation process reduces costs to donors and the health care system and improves clinical outcomes.
Authors
Dr. Ann Bugeja is an Assistant Professor at the University of Ottawa and Staff Nephrologist at The Ottawa Hospital. She is the Medical Director of the Living Kidney Donor Program and a Clinician Investigator with the Clinical Epidemiology Program of The Ottawa Hospital Research Institute. Dr. Bugeja is Vice-Chair of the Canadian Blood Services Living Donation Advisory Committee. She is the Lead for Nephrology Undergraduate Medical Education at the University of Ottawa and has received several teaching awards and honours.
Dr. Ariana Noel is a PGY5 Nephrology resident at the University of Ottawa. She completed her undergraduate degree in Biomedical Science and MSc. in Biochemistry. She hopes to pursue a transplant fellowship and clinical epidemiology training after Nephrology residency.
Dr. Kednapa Thavorn is a Senior Scientist and a Health Economist at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute. She is also an Assistant Professor with the School of Epidemiology and Public Health, University of Ottawa and an Adjunct Scientist with the Institute for Clinical and Evaluative Sciences. Her research focuses on topics surrounding health economics, resource allocation in health care, pharmacoepidemiology, health equity, care for people with complex needs, and population health.
Dr. Greg Knoll is Chair, Department of Medicine at the University of Ottawa and the Ottawa Hospital. He currently holds a uOttawa Distinguished Chair in Clinical Transplantation Research and is a Senior Scientist with the Clinical Epidemiology Program of the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute. His research involves various methodologies, including systematic reviews, observational studies and randomized trials with specific interests in studying quality measurement in kidney transplantation, selecting transplant candidates, pre-transplant cardiac screening and management strategies for the complications of kidney transplantation. Dr. Knoll has served on dozens of committees, boards, and working groups focused on improving the care of patients with kidney failure and kidney transplantation. He is a Past President of the Canadian Society of Transplantation and previous Program Lead with the Canadian National Transplant Research Program. Recently, he has been involved at the Provincial and National levels working to implement quality and performance measurement standards for solid organ transplantation. He was the Co-Chair of the international KDIGO guidelines on the Evaluation and Management of Candidates for Kidney Transplantation.
