In this video Guthrie Govan talks you though his approach to slap guitar. This is a technique we often associate with bass guitar, but Guthrie is a big advocate of this on the electric guitar.

In the video Guthrie talks about the importance of rhythm and understanding key rhythmic points in the bar, the same way a drummer would. Once you have those key points nailed, you can embellish them. This is a fun technique to add to your repertoire. It's an advanced technique so start off slow and make sure the basics are tight before you speed things up.
