The long-awaited Bodenplatte update is here! IL-2 has been updated to version 3.201 which includes a new pilot physiology model, increased visual distance, three new flyable planes, and the AI B-25. I spent the last couple of days testing the P-51D-15, the Tempest, and the P-38J. The P-38 seems like it will potentially be a more devastating fighter bomber than the P-47 Thunderbolt. The P-38 can carry two 2,000lb bombs or four 1,000lbs whereas the P-47 can carry a maximum of two 500lb bombs and one 1,000lb bomb.

I set out with a few fellow flyers from the Stalinium Tree Pilots Squadron and one fellow Squid Squad pilot on a fighter bombing mission of the Axis factory objective. Featured in this video are Midnight Overture, Golf Whiskey, Poltergeist, and Snow182 along with myself. The increased visual distance makes spotting aircraft much easier than previously across large distances. There is no longer a 7km pop-in of aircraft objects, so the simulation is much more immersive. Overall, this update has been a much needed quality of life change for the simulation.
