Srirangam, often hailed as the Boologa Vaikuntam (Heaven on Earth), is an island and a part of the city of Tiruchirappalli in Tamil Nadu. It is renowned for the Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple, a major pilgrimage destination for Hindus and one of the largest temple complexes in the world.
The history of Srirangam is deeply intertwined with the Vaishnavite tradition. The temple, dedicated to Lord Vishnu, is revered as one of the 108 Divya Desams holy abodes of Vishnu. The origins of the temple are rooted in legend, with the deity, Ranganatha, believed to have been worshipped by Brahma and later given to King Ikshvaku.
