Ryde Pier Head Station is the terminus on the "Island Line" from Shanklin on the Isle of Wight, the station here is over half a mile out at sea and was built like this so it could be a interchange with ferries from the mainland, this is till the case now and you can board a ferry straight after alighting the train.
The "Island Line" is the only one left on the Isle of Wight that is considered as part of the national rail network in the UK.
The line is operated by a division of South Western Railway formally South West Trains and up to the start of 2021 operated the services with Class 483 ex Tube Stock which were at the time the oldest revenue earning pieces of rolling stock on the UK Rail network.
