When people hear or read the term, 'saltwater fly rod' it's difficult not to conjure up this image of a stiff, unyielding stick that is only good for long range casting with overweight lines. I doubt many would envisage such a rod being good at short ranged, trout fishing distances and situations.
I take my NRX+ 9 wt. to a local creek for some spring steelhead fishing. There's a lot of deadfall in this creek so it helps to have a muscular rod to keep the fish out of the sunken trees.
