It seems that the demonstration video of this glyph may mislead you. Even though technically the symbol drawn is one of the possible variants, you might receive a non-recognition message as well after having drawn it this way.

The very basic shape is merely a horisontal loop, and you don't need anything else. And be sure to draw it always large enough. Game recognizes small strokes as an attempt to paint something with colour, not as a symbol.
