On 13 January 2020, the members of the von der Leyen Commission took an oath before the judges of the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg. Commissioners pledge to respect the European Treaties and, since 2009, the Charter of Fundamental Rights. They also promise to be completely independent and neither to seek nor to take instructions from any government or from any other institution, body, office or entity.
