Chirality is a word that describes objects that do not have a plane of symmetry. They are asymmetric objects. Objects like hands, shoes, scissors, and some desks are chiral. They have a "handedness" - either right or left. Atoms and molecules can also be chiral, or lack a plane of symmetry. The most common instance of chirality in chemistry involves sp3 hybridized atoms with four different substituents. Such atoms and molecules can be described as being chiral, asymmetric, or as stereocenters.
