This video contains a video log of my 5-month 5 day old daughter's rice eating ceremony. This is a traditional ceremony which marks the beginning of first day when your baby starts on solid food. This is also called as Anna Prasanam or AnnaPrashan.
Usually this is not done on a new moon day. This is usually done on even months for boys like 6 and 8 and odd months for girls like 5 and 7.
Usually on this day, babies are dressed in traditional clothes, for south indians this is pattu langa or pattu pavada. Usually maternal uncle feeds the first bite.
Then fun game is played with the baby by placing a few items in front of them like: food, money, gold, pen.
The mother of the baby is asked to then dip a gold ring in all the food items placed on the leaf and then, touch the tongue of the child with that ring. Followed by the father and the close family.
Talk to your pediatrician to confirm if your child is ready to start eating solids.
Don't feed too much for the first time as that can upset their stomach.
