UK Police Stop And Search Powers As Per UK Government legislation -

The police can stop and question you at any time and ask for your ID - they can search you depending on the situation.

A police community support officer (PCSO) must be in uniform when they stop and question you or ask for your ID.

A police officer does not always have to be in uniform to stop and ask but if they’re not wearing uniform they must show you their warrant card.

A UK police officer might stop you and ask:

what your name is
can I see your ID
what you’re doing in the area
where you’re going

You do not have to stop or answer any questions or give your ID to an officer.

If you do not and there’s no other reason to suspect you, then this alone cannot be used as a reason to search, arrest or detain you.

Unless you're committing or about to commit an offence, then you must identify.
