For solving attribute selection problem in decision trees, information gain measure is used. By using information gain as a criterion, we try to estimate the information contained by each attribute. Entropy of Target variable is calclated. Likewise Entropy for every other attribute needs to be calculated.. Using information gain formula subtract this entropy from the entropy of target variable.
