Congress passed the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) to prevent the introduction and shipment of goods produced under labor conditions that failed to meet federal standards from entering the stream of interstate commerce.Darby was charged with violating the FLSA, & challenged an indictment against him. The district court ruled for Darby & held the FLSA unconstitutional because it sought to regulate hours & wages of employees in local manufacturing activitiesUS appealed to SCOTUS
