I published an update about my daughter’s enuresis on my YouTube channel last week and thought I should share some of the advice on here as it could help someone. Go over to my latest YouTube video for a lot more info and links.
Things that help my daughter:
- ‘Pyjama pants’ like DryNites: I buy them in bulk because it works out a lot cheaper. They’re far better than using any odd nappies.
- Having a clear system in place for sleepovers and overnight stays (large pyjama bottoms or a long nightie with leggings, DryNites, plastic bag to dispose of it and bring it home the next day, Cheeky Wipes @cheekywipes for a good clean in the morning)
- Mattress protector: we have a protector on each mattress in our house but also have a disposable mattress protector under my daughter’s fitted sheet. I buy the ones by @huggiesuk
Things that work for a lot of children but didn’t help my daughter (as well as things we didn’t try):
- “lifting” out of bed and taking her to the toilet in the middle of the night
- restricting drinks before bedtime
- Vibrating watch that works as a reminder to go to the toilet: This is the one my daughter has but she’s a very heavy sleeper and never wakes up.
- Bedwetting alarms
- You can also get waterproof sleeping bag liners from @eric_charity
- Medication didn’t help my daughter but I know a few people who managed to keep their enuresis under control with it. “Desmopressin is a medicine which ‘tops up’ the body’s levels of the hormone vasopressin. This is the hormone which tells the kidneys to produce less wee at night.” (@eric_charity)
