Have you ever heard of someone who rows a boat with one leg? If not, you might find it surprising but it is true. Welcome to the Inle lake, The land of Intha. The Intha people are members of a Tibeto-Burman ethnic group living around Inle Lake and best known for their unusual one leg-rowing techniques. Intha literally means "Sons of the lake". These people are mainly fishermen and living in this area for thousands of years. They fish, make jewelry, and grow vegetables on floating plots.
Leg-rowing is a traditional fishing technique of Intha. This practice is believed to date back to the 12th century and has been passed down from generation to generation. Inle Lake is located in the heart of Shan State. It is surrounded by towering mountains and lush hills. It offers a splendid view of floating gardens and villages built on stilts.
