Leading up to the 1984-85 NBA season, the Chicago Bulls took full advantage of the marketing machine that was their No. 1 draft choice. Michael Jordan was the third player selected overall and immediately projected as the savior of a franchise that had fallen into the league’s doldrums. To promote season ticket plans, the Bulls purchased space in the Chicago Tribune to feature a movie-poster style ad for “Here Comes Mr. Jordan,” a show opening soon at Chicago Stadium for 41 nights only. Jordan’s promise boosted Chicago’s attendance into the top 10 in the NBA for the first time in eight seasons, and it would only grow from there, much like the value of his cards. One of those cards is his 1986 Fleer rookie card, and a PSA 9 example is available in this month’s Premier Auction. Though the case is scratched in the bottom left corner, it can be replaced, and it is the card inside that matters most. So settle into a comfy chair, get a big bowl of popcorn, and watch the bidding unfold. “Here Comes Mr. Jordan’s Rookie” needs a star, and it might as well be you.
